On Friday night I got a text from my mum saying “Ellie Goulding is brilliant, im going ot buy her album.” Saturday morning she purchased the album, and Sunday night she went to number one in the album charts. I think my mum might actually be a genuis.
Anyway, the 23-year-old knocked Queen of Pop, Lady GaGas The Fame Monster off the top spot and told Radio One; "Its a bit weird. I didnt really expect it at all and Im just really excited and really amazed.
“I dont know what I expected to happen but Im just so, so grateful to all the people who bought the record and supported me. Its been quite a strange, weird journey for me last year so for it to be number one is beyond incredible and beyond insane."
Elsewhere in the chart Jason Derulos self-titled album reached number eight, Rihannas Rated R climbed up seven places to number nine and André Rieu jumped a place to number ten with Forever Vienna.
Not so good for Marina and the Diamonds debut The Family Jewels, which dropped from number five to number 16 and JLS also fell back out of the top ten to number 12.
