Busta Rhymes was released on $7,500 (£3,750) bail
yesterday (03May07) following his drink driving arrests earlier that day.Police stopped the hip-hop star, real name Trevor Smith, at 12.48am after
they noticed the windows of his GMC Yukon Denali Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV)
were excessively tinted.
Officers claim they smelled "a strong odour of alcohol" on Smith's breath and
"he dropped his wallet to the ground" when he attempted to show them his
identification.
An on-site sobriety test found his blood alcohol level was .147 - above the
legal New York State limit of .08. However, a later test at the police station
showed his level as .067.
Smith was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of driving while
ability impaired and driving while intoxicated on Thursday. He is scheduled to
return to court on Tuesday (08May07) to stand trial for two separate assault
cases.
Prosecutor Harrison Schweiloch called the rapper a "violent, predicate
offender", the New York Post reports.
This latest incident is the fourth time Smith has been arrested in the past
nine months. In February (07), he was arrested for allegedly driving on a
suspended license and aggravated driving."
