Chris Brown overcame the controversy surrounding his performance on US TV's Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday night (March 29th) to win a standing ovation from both the studio audience and the show's judges.
The troubled star hit the headlines last week when he smashed a window backstage after an appearance on breakfast show Good Morning America following a tense interview about his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The scandal prompted beloved Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron and professional dancer Cheryl Burke to urge producers to consider scrapping Brown's set on Tuesday's programme as a result of his violent behaviour on GMA.
Burke said, "As a victim of domestic violence I don't agree with him coming on the show but it's out of my control."
But TV bosses refused to axe the performance and Brown hit the stage twice as scheduled to sing his latest single Yeah 3x and Forever.
And the 21-year-old singer's energetic performance won over both the audience and the judges.
Brown split from singer Rihanna in 2009, weeks after an assault for which he was sentenced to five months probation and six months community service.
