Britney Spears’ former manager Sam Lufti has been granted permission to take his defamation lawsuit against the pop star and her family to trial.

Jamie and Lynne Spears have publicly blamed Lutfi for the series of emotional crises that lead to the Toxic hitmaker losing custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2007.

Lutfi slammed their claims in a lawsuit filed in a Los Angeles court in February, accusing the singer and her parents for damaging his reputation by allegedly leaking false information about his conduct to the press.

He is seeking compensation for the allegations and the case, which also includes charges of assault and breach of contract, will go before a judge on 8 March, 2010.

The legal papers state Jamie and Lynne Spears "began a campaign of slander, libel and defamation aimed at discrediting, destroying and physically and emotionally intimidating Lutfi in order to drive him out of Britney's life".

Lawyers for Spears and her parents are reportedly considering filing a countersuit.

The news of the trial comes less than a week after Lutfi confirmed plans to appeal a restraining order taken out against him by Spears, which bans him from going within 100 yards of the star or her family members for the next three years.
