Bob Geldof

The mother of late rocker Michael Hutchence has reignited her feud with Bob Geldof - calling the singer "cruel" for not allowing her husband to see his granddaughter Tiger Lily before his death last month.

The 12 year old, whose parents were Geldof's ex-wife Paula Yates and the late INXS singer, was adopted by Geldof following Yates' death of a drugs overdose in 2000. Australian-born Hutchence died in 1997.

Geldof has raised the orphan as his own, but has long faced criticism from Hutchence's mother, Patricia Glassop, who accused the star of cutting contact with Tiger Lily's Australian relatives. Glassop claims she hasn't seen the youngster, or heard from the Geldof family, in three years.

Glassop is furious that her husband, Ross, who was Hutchence's stepfather, was not given the chance to see the youngster before his death from respiratory failure in May.

She says, "Ross was an air force pilot and not easily reduced to tears. But when he spoke to me about the possibility of dying without ever seeing or talking to our Tiger Lily again, he would just break down.

"I explained (to Geldof) that Ross was seriously ill, but I never heard back. Now it's too late. I don't understand how any man could do that. It's not only hurting us, it's hurting Tiger Lily as well. The situation is cruel and unnecessary.

"I've lost my husband and now I have a granddaughter who doesn't even know her beloved Grandpa Ross is dead.

"I'm getting older too, and I have to resign myself to the possibility I will never see Tiger Lily again. Perhaps that's what Bob Geldof wants but it breaks my heart every day."
