Bob Geldof is celebrating a successful investment after pouring money into global blockbuster Avatar - the rocker is set to make a massive profit from his initial payment.

The musician is one of a number of celebrities who signed up to hand over cash to a scheme which offers tax-relief to those who invest in films, and Geldof's decision to join the project, run by film finance house Ingenious Media, has paid off - his investment in James Cameron's animated epic is set to bring him an estimated $80,000 (£50,000) profit following the film's worldwide box office success.

The rocker, who has yet to see the movie, is delighted with the result: "Thank you very much for the good news. I haven't seen the film yet, but I will now that I own a brief second of it. I've got even more incentive to go see it."

Other stars who signed up to invest in Avatar include soccer player David Beckham, director Guy Ritchie and musician Peter Gabriel.
