America Ferrera: 'I'm More Confident Being Ugly'....

Actress America Ferrera feels more confident in her role in hit TV show Ugly Betty than in her own skin.The 23-year-old - who won an Emmy award last September (07) for her role on the hit comedy - says portraying her small-screen alter ego allows her to cast off any insecurities she has about her looks.She says, "I'm less self-conscious as Betty. When I walk down a red carpet, I never feel more self-conscious than in my own skin. When I get into Betty's skin, it all goes away."Once the braces go in, Betty comes to life. When I'm Betty, I never have to think about what my shirt is doing or if this is a good angle. There is an enormous amount of freedom as an actor to have all that lifted off your shoulders" Meanwhil in other news the actress admits she took tips from Renee Zellweger in a bid to perfect her role in hit TV show Ugly Betty.The 23-year-old reveals she was inspired by Zellweger's curvaceous character Bridget Jones in movie Bridget Jones' Diary.She says, "Bridget Jones was absolutely something that popped into my head when I first read the script. Scottish singer/songwriter Kt Tunstall gave striking Hollywood writers a special treat when she performed on the picket lines.The star had been booked to appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno - but the series is currently on hold due to the walkouts by members of the Writers Guild Of America.

Writers have been striking since 5 November (07) after talks between the union and studio representatives failed to resolve a dispute over royalties.

An unfazed Tunstall picked up her guitar and played an impromptu gig in the parking lot of the California studio where the show is made, performing an exclusive acoustic set for protesters.
