Children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent and school choir organiser Young Voices have unveiled pop sensation Alexandra Burke as the headline act at their Christmas Celebration concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
The event takes place on Friday 10 December and will include former X Factor winner Alexandra taking to the world famous stage with a choir of 1,500 children from schools across London. It is hoped the event, held during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, will raise more than £150,000 for children and young people who have cancer.
Alexandra said: “I took part in the CLIC Sargent Christmas Celebration back in 2005 and I’m delighted to be performing at the event again this year. It’s a great experience to sing with such a huge choir of children who are performing to help raise money for other children.
“It should be a great night, and all the money raised will help CLIC Sargent to be there every step of the way for children and young people with cancer,” added the X Factor 2008 winner.
The annual concert has raised more than £800,000 over the last five years during which time Joss Stone, Lee Ryan, Lemar, Miss Dynamite and V.V. Brown have all performed.
Lorraine Clifton, Chief Executive of CLIC Sargent said: “We are thrilled Alexandra will be donating her time and lending her support to this year’s Christmas Celebration. Every ticket that is sold will help CLIC Sargent to continue our vital work, to reduce the impact of childhood cancer on the whole family.”
Young Voices is dedicated to bringing song and music into the lives of children throughout the UK. Ben Lewis, Managing Director of Young Voices said: “Every year we look forward to staging the CLIC Sargent Christmas Celebration as it is a truly special event. It’s the combination of so many children singing for such an amazing charity, alongside a fantastic array of artists, in a venue as prestigious as the Royal Albert Hall that simply makes for an unforgettable evening.”
