Adele, Coldplay and Snow Patrol have been found out to be the most likely bands to put you to sleep, according to a new survey undertaken by hotel firm Travelodge.

They wanted to find out which artists people turn on when they want to get a good night’s snooze, and have found that Adele tops the 2012 ‘Kip Charts’. Her big ballads and slow songs are seen as favourites for the British public to drift off to.

She’s followed up by previous winners Coldplay, with the Chris Martin fronted band unable to recreate their victories in the same poll in 2008 and 2010.

Snow Patrol clock up in third place in the poll, and are followed up by late soul legend Barry White and surprisingly enough One Direction close off the top five.

The survey also pointed out that a quarter of adults asked fall asleep listening to their iPods, and even have playlists made specifically for the job.

Stevie Williams, Sleep Expert from the Edinburgh Sleep Centre said: "Results from various sleep studies undertaken with a variety of male and female groups, has indicated that listening to soft, relaxing music at bedtime leads to a number of different benefits to a night’s sleep.

“These benefits include a longer sleep duration period, fewer night time awakenings and shortening of the time it takes to fall asleep."
