Twins from Hampshire with their heads firmly planted in Nashville, Ward Thomas are a duo like no other who are hoping to take the world by storm with their country twang.
Recently touring the UK, they're soon to be heading to America to garner a whole host of new fans, but they managed to take some time out to speak to Female First about working together as siblings, what it is about the country genre that they love, and a whole lot more.
How hard would you say it is to break into the industry as a female duo?
The music industry is a really difficult one to crack for anyone but for two girls it's actually quite an exciting challenge especially as we're sisters. But the fact that we are sisters means we have each other to rely on.
What's it like performing and working with your twin?
It's brilliant to perform with someone else, and having grown up together and spent almost every second with each other, we’ve got pretty used to performing together. We're very lucky really.
Who gets their own way?
Catherine is the bossy one but if it gets too much I can knock her over.
What is it about country music that you think people really love? It's a genre that does extremely well.
Country music portrays real emotion and tells great stories. The melodies in country music also help to bring out that emotion and make the stories more convincing and real.
Who or what inspires you on your musical journey?
We have lots of support from our family so they have been a big inspiration. Our parents were in a covers band together when we were young and that definitely introduced us to lots of different music and artists.
How was the experience of shooting your new music video for 'Footnotes'?
We were nervous at first. But then we eased into it and it became really good fun. We were also lucky enough to film it around where we grew up and that was pretty special, especially as 'Footnotes' was one of the first songs we ever wrote.
What should fans expect from the upcoming 'Footnotes' EP?
We are very proud of all the songs on the 'Footnotes' EP and hope they show the variety of our music as well as following the common themes of our lives and our stories.
How are you finding touring the UK?
We discovered that we suit touring a lot. We learned a lot during the tour, met loads of new people and experienced so many different audiences so it was a big learning curve. We can't wait to get back on the road.
What should we expect from you in the next few months?
We expect to be really busy in the next few months. You can see us playing in London at the C2C Festival at the O2 on March 16th where we are playing on the Town Square and O2 Phone Shop stages. And we will be off to America for a few months touring around the southern states. We will be back in the summer to play more shows and do some of the summer festivals. We can’t wait!
'Footnotes' is to be released on April 7.
