The Hosts are back with their brand new single Give Your Love To Her and there is a new album on the horizon.
We caught up with Tom Hogg from the band to chat about the single and the album as well as what is on the horizon.
- You are about to release your new single 'Give Your Love To Her' so what can we expect from the new track?
We are it's out on the 22nd July. It’s a wall of sound, over the years we’ve developed our 'Spector' production and the single really reflects this.
It’s a 3 minute love song with a twist, it’s basically saying ‘don’t be a sh*t’ and that ‘every action has an equal and opposite reaction’.
Throw in the adage ‘you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til its gone’ and you’re starting to get a good feel for the song.
- Some people will be coming to your music for the first time with this record so how would you describe your sound?
Melodramatic Alternative Pop Music..I think. Hmmm yes M.A.P.M.
- I was reading that this track was conceived after a trip to New York so can you tell me a little bit about that?
Yeah it’s true I sat down and wrote it on my return from a rather heavy New York trip. I don’t really remember how it came to be though, one day it wasn’t there the next day it was.
It was one of those song I didn’t really think about it just happened. It’s been with us for a while now and during its time it has seen several key changes and a whole middle 8 re-write, so its grown with us really.
- How have found the response to the track so far - it does seem to be going down really well?
Yeah really well. It’s had a bunch of plays on BBC Radio 2 as well as winning the Rebel Playlist vote on 6 Music.
Everyone seems to really dig it, which is nice. We’re real lucky in the fact that we’re working with some very cool and well respected people.
- And is there an album on the horizon and when are we going to be seeing that drop?
Oh yes the album is in the bag. We’re looking at a release towards the end of the summer, early autumn time.
- Richard Hawley has served as producer so how did that collaboration come about?
I’ve know Richard for over 10 years now and have worked with him a few times in the studio, we work really well together.
It was great to have him with us on this and to have him play on our record. There really isn’t much the man can’t do...except see without his glasses on.
- How did you find working with him - he is not only a producer but a musician in his own right - and what did you feel his experience brought to this album?
On the tracks he produced and played on you can definitely tell its him on there and having worked with him a few times it was pretty straight forward and easy, more like going for a pint than making a record!!
- So where did you interest in music start and how did the band come together?
I’ve always had a love of music for as far back as I can remember and I’ve been writing songs since I was about 14.
My dad was a huge punk fan, my mum loved the Beatles and my grans loved Roy Orbison and Eddie Cochran so when I was growing up I had 'God Save The Queen' and 'Love Me Do' in one ear and 'In Dreams' and 'Am I Blue' in the other.
I can remember my dad playing me Elvis Costello and the Stranglers sitting me down and putting the headphones on and saying, 'listen to this'.
We actually played a show with Hugh Cornwell for Channel 4 and he joined us on stage for 'No More Heroes', very cool.
- Have you had the chance to play some of these new tracks live? And how are they going down with a live audience?
They’ve all made it into the live set, yes, and from where I’m stood on stage the audiences seem to like what they hear.
- Speaking of live shows are the any on the horizon throughout the summer?
Our next shows are for the single release, two in Sheffield and one in London.

- Finally what is next for you?
