For those who don’t know her, SEYD is hoping to make an impact with her new single ‘Another World’, out now via Born Good. Writing about the loss of a partner, from the perspective of both the living and the person who has passed away, ghostly beats and chilling analogue keys come together to create dark pop for audiences looking for a little meat around the bones of their pop music.

SEYD returns with her new single 'Another World'

A few weeks back, we got the opportunity to put some questions to SEYD, aka Eleanor Robinson, to find out more about her ambitions, inspirations and more. Read on to find out what she had to say…

For those who may be new to your music, how best would you describe your sound?

Ethereal alt-pop. Dark, celestial and emotive.

What challenges have you faced in the music industry thus far?

I’d say the biggest challenge is to improve and progress, to make sure that every new track that I release is better than the last and most importantly, reflects my vision.

How difficult would you say this career path is in terms of making a name for yourself?

Really difficult. Growing up in a small rural town meant that on the whole, opportunities were limited. Moving to London will hopefully open a lot of doors and enable me to showcase the material that I have written over the past year or so.

How important is it for you to have creative control over the work you produce?

It is very important. I worked with a producer (De Wilde) on ‘Another World’ and he helped me craft the overall tone of the track. But over the coming days, months and years, I aim to hone and develop my production skills. This will allow me to be even more hands on with my material.

Where do you draw influence and inspiration from for your work?

Loss, art, heartbreak and documentaries.

If you could collaborate with anybody going forward, who would you choose and why?

Grimes; I admire how unique and independent she is. I’d love to know how she creates her sound and to be a part of it would be mad.

Do you have definitive aims or goals for your career?

As long as I am involved in music, I’ll be happy. I love songwriting and most importantly, I want to release powerful music that connects with people. To have the opportunity to write for or with other artists would be great also.

Where do you hope to be by this time next year?

I hope to have an EP out and to be performing shows, too.

What should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?

Definitely more music. I’m also in the process of putting together a live band and will start rehearsing for live shows in the near future.
