Based in Essex and having already made a name for himself in the world of music, Kevin Pearce returns this month with a brilliant new single, ahead of the release of his new album ‘So On’.
Ahead of the record drop, we got the opportunity to put some quick questions to the singer/songwriter, all about his goals and ambitions, plans for the future and more. Read on to find out what he had to say…
For those who may be new to your music, how best would you describe your sound?
Ethereal alt. folk.
What challenges have you faced in the music industry so far?
Coming from a working class background, sustaining yourself in the first place to allow enough time to do music is pretty tough. I'm seeing less and less bands and artists coming from working class environments and more coming from universities / floated by parents financially.
How difficult would you say this career path is in terms of making a name for yourself?
Well, it is what it is. By its nature, very hard. Hard work is the bare minimum, that and bloody minded stubbornness I’ve found!
How important is it for you to have creative control over the work you produce?
Essential. I wouldn’t do it if someone was telling me what music to make.
Where do you draw influence and inspiration from for your work?
Life I guess, and the bizarre, and somewhat unnatural way society is constructed and how that affects our human condition. And books.
If you could collaborate with anybody going forward, who would you choose and why?
Bjork, Bat For Lashes and Arvo Part. For their creative freedoms respectively.
Tell us a random, funny fact about you that not many people know.
Aardvarks are my favourite animal.
Do you have definitive aims or goals for your career?
Just to keep improving in what I do.
What should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?
A UK tour, new album release, new singles, and maybe a haircut too!
