Aiming to create 'melodic melancholy in the noisiest fashion' on their new debut EP, 'Real Time Fiction', Danish post-punk trio John Alcabean are excited to showcase their new material in September.
We got the opportunity to chat to the guys about their music, their plans going forward and more! Find out what they had to say below...
For those who may be new to your music, how best would you describe your sound?
Raw distorted chorus guitars, guitar-like baselines and soft, boyish vocals.
What challenges have you faced in the music industry so far?
We live in a small country with 5.5 million inhabitants and we're playing non-radio-friendly rock music, so obviously the odds have been against us from the beginning.
How difficult would you say this career path is in terms of making a name for yourself?
Honestly we try not to think too much about how difficult it is. Our mentality is just that if you want to make a name for yourself in this business, you have to put your main focus in the songwriting. All the promotion stuff you can learn as you go. Or if you have the sad realisation that no one is following your band or listening to your music. But I strongly doubt that you have had that experience if you're focusing on making awesome music.
How important is it for you to have creative control over the work you produce?
With this EP whe knew what we wanted it to sound like, so it was an important part of the process that we had some creative control in the studio.
If you could collaborate with anybody going forward, who would you choose and why?
We would like to support an awesome band that we love and respect and that we think we could learn a great deal from. Also we really hope that a guy like Dave Grohl wants to be our spiritual and creative mentor some day.
Tell us a random, funny fact about you that not many people know.
We have a hard time listening to music with Danish lyrics... That is kinda ironic I guess.
Do you have definitive aims or goals for your career?
You know, travelling the world and to release a lot of great music... Meeting awesome and passionate people we can learn from.
What should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?
First we have to find a new drummer, and then hopefully we will be playing a lot of concerts to support our new release. Also, we're writing a lot of new songs at the moment.
John Alcabean's new EP 'Real Time Fiction' is out on September 2, 2016 via Tapetown Records.
