Having released their new single 'Thieves' at the back end of last week, GANGS have had a quick rise to success in their hometown.

GANGS

Coming together in Glasgow during some cold, winter months, the band are now ready to unleash their talents on the world.

We got the chance to catch up with Marc MacCallum (Bassist/B Vox) to find out all about their journey so far, future plans and more...

For those who may be new to your music, how best would you describe your sound?

Everyone in the band has varied tastes which I think is beneficial as different ideas are thrown into the pot. If people were to see us live they'd see we have elements of garage/punk/rock n roll in there, with plenty of strong vocal hooks.

What challenges have you faced in the music industry so far?

We all come from different backgrounds. Our singer and drummer have had the biggest challenge out of us all as they have experienced bigger things and played bigger venues. Together we're just doing our own things and aiming to get our music out there. We're focusing on recording and the album is nearly finished which is an amazing place to be for a new band.

How difficult would you say this career path is in terms of making a name for yourself?

Compared to the old days I'd say it's very hard. Not in a stressful way, more challenging as there are many bands out there at the moment. Especially Glasgow, the scene is bouncing.

How important is it for you to have creative control over the work you produce?

Very important. It means everything to us. We ain't forcing the writing down any particular paths. Just seeing what comes out in the moment.

Where do you draw influence and inspiration from for your work?

As a band we like to surround ourselves with people who inspire us. Just listening to conversations and getting into people's minds gives us ideas.

If you could collaborate with anybody going forward, who would you choose and why?

Josh Homme for us has been a beating heart of inspiration for the band. He's probably the most talented guy in modern rock n roll, he can drum, he can sing like f**k and his lead guitar playing is phenomenal. And on top of it all he's an amazing producer. He helps us up our game every single time we listen to his work.

Tell us a random, funny fact about you that not many people know.

We once almost wrote the theme music to a Glasgow porno.

Do you have definitive aims and goals for your career?

Simple - To create music we're proud of.

Where do you hope to be this time next year?

On a tour bus with Mariah Carey.

What should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?

We're planning our next single release, which will be this year. We'll also be touring around the UK and finishing off the album.

New single 'Thieves' is out now via Smooth Action Records.
