Cody Simpson shot to fame following his YouTube videos and discovery when he was just 13 years of age.
We got the chance to chat to Cody about his brand new autobiographical book, his career and what we can expect from him next.
Tell us about your new book 'Welcome To Paradise: My Journey'.
I wrote this book to give my a fans a deeper insight into this crazy journey I've embarked on. In a lot of ways it is a tribute to my family for giving up everything they had for me, to my fans for their undying support, and to the important people surrounding me who have helped mold me into who I am today.
What should fans expect to learn from the book that they don't already know?
I really opened up about my life in ways which I hadn't previously been comfortable doing. I wanted to share stories and photos which I had kept unreleased. The book allows the reader a never before seen look into my transformation as an artist and human being.
How did you end up in the world of music and as a result the music industry?
I was discovered off YouTube when I was 13 years old by an American record producer. He flew me over from Australia and we started to record music together. Soon enough I was signed to Atlantic Records and my career as an artist formally began!
What is it about music that you love so much?
I love how music has the power to evoke emotion and unify people. It is an outlet for me to express my thoughts, feelings, and creativity. It also has the power to serve as an anthem for certain periods within peoples lives.
Who or what do you draw inspirations from as an artist?
Undoubtedly, Jack Johnson has served as one of the greatest inspirations to me; he encapsulates his lifestyle perfectly in his music. His sound reflects that of what I strive to create in my music as well. Mellow and laid back vibes.
Is it tough achieving so much at a young age?
I don't let my age prohibit me from working hard. When you work hard you reap the benefits. I am constantly striving to achieve more as I mature as an artist.
When people complain that 'music isn't what it used to be', what would you say in response?
I think that music is always evolving. Whether or not it is appreciated is left to listener to decide.
Who would you choose to collaborate with if you could pick any artist in the world?
Jack Johnson, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran.
How was the experience of working with names such as Justin Bieber and Flo Rida?
They're both great artists who were humbling to work alongside.
What can we expect from you in the next few months?
I'm spending then next few months touring overseas in New Zealand and Australia with my mate Justin Bieber. It's going to be great to finally return and share my music with my home country. I am also releasing an acoustic EP in November and embarking on a tour in January to promote it!
Do you have a message you'd like to share with your fans?
Thank you for your amazing support. I love each and every one of you. Without you guys I wouldn't be here and for that I can never show enough gratitude.
