Canadian singer Alysha Brilla is ready to take the UK by storm later this month, with the release of her single 'Two Shots'. Not just a talented musician but practicing yogi as well, Alysha's work has already touched so many people, and looks likely to impact on even more as the months and years go by.

We got the chance to put some questions to Alysha about her artistry, day-to-day life as a yogi and more in an exclusive new interview. Find out what she had to say below.

For those who may not yet have heard your music, how best would you describe yourself as an artist?

My music is an upbeat mix of pop, reggae and jazz music. I sing about love, but also about social commentary and I am equally as passionate about both.

How difficult would you say it is to carve out a career in this industry?

Very. But I'm doing it anyway, because I love challenges...

This year will see you make your debut in the UK with 'Two Shots', what can you tell us about that song?

'Two Shots' is a song I wrote when I was broken-hearted and gigging weekly at this amazing jazz bar in Toronto. I had an incredible six piece band at my disposal and we would put on a wicked show to a packed house every night. Of course, I was feeling like death inside because of my ex... so the song is about that conflicted feeling... of performing with a broken heart.

What was the experience like of filming the music video for this track?

It was amazing! We actually shot the music video at the Reservoir Lounge, which is mentioned in the first line of the song. All my friends and family came out to cameo and support. One of the funnest video shoots ever.

You also produced this track yourself, how much work goes into that?

A lot...as far as arranging and organizing... planning and conceptualizing... but I have an amazing band to play the songs and build them. It makes it a lot easier when I'm surrounded by very talented people.

Where do you draw influence or inspiration from for your music?

I am attracted to other people who speak their mind. I am attracted to honest and fierce people. I love older jazz music from the 30's and 40's. Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Ella... I like the juxtaposition of a happy melody with a poignant or sad lyric.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future if you could choose anybody, and why?

I would love to collaborate with Mark Ronson. I think he's a wicked producer.

You're also a practicing yogi and launched Womyn - can you tell us about that?

Yes. I have been practicing yoga for seven years and have been teaching for the last two. I studied yoga teaching in India. It was amazing. Womyn is a blog whereupon I can write about yogic and philosophic related musings I have. Grateful for that outlet as sometimes written word can be too complex or nuanced for a three minute song!

You've also won the Oktoberfest Woman of the Year Award, how did that feel?

It felt wunderbar. It's an honour to be recognized as someone who 'makes things happen' in the arts in my community. I have an amazing community in KW where I live and I love that it's like a big family.

Finally, what should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?

You can expect a brand new music video for my song 'Immigrant'. We are launching it globally and it is a song with special meaning to my heart. I think it will speak to a lot of people, everywhere.

Alysha Brilla's track 'Two Shots' impacts in the UK on May 18.
