Turbowolf

Turbowolf

Described as the kids of Death From Above 1979, ELO, The Stooges, Justice and White Zombie; Turbowolf are building an electronic noise temple above the crumbled pillars of rock music.

I caught up with the rather gorgeous frontman to find out just what makes the trio so fox-tastic.

Hello there pretties, how are things going in your lovely world?

It’s all good, I’m watching Jungle Book.

Why are you watching that?

We just got a VCR yesterday because someone at work didn’t want it so we’re watching all our old videos.

So you still have to do a ‘proper job’?

Yes, we all have to work..

Boo, you need to knock that on the head! So tell us what’s happening in the music world of Turbowolf?

We’re just writing at the moment; Jungle Book is on downstairs and my room’s a little studio so we record a lot of stuff in my bedroom and my bathroom because it sounds kinda cool in there.

We’re also getting ready for the Great Escape Festival. We’re just getting new stuff ready and making sure we’re really tight and know what we’re doing. We also have a little festival in London called The Stag and Dagger. We’re doing download next month too which is a big one and that’s going to be amazing!

We want you to come to Manchester!

We want to as well, I think after the festival season when the nights are drawing in and it gets to awesome, we will give you a reason to go outside again.

To anyone who hasn’t heard of you yet, how would you describe your sound?

I’ve just written something down that’s I’ve written at the moment so I’ll read that to you… “We sound like a thousand beasts tearing open our skulls and examining the contents”

Ooh, very creative, 10/10, I like it. But if you were going to give us just one song of yours to listen to so that you would become our new favourite singer, what would it be?

Right, well I guess people will listen to the songs on our MySpace, so I think you should listen to Seven Severed Heads because that’s going to be our single and it sounds awesome and we’re really happy with it. It’s quite a good place to start and move on from there.

If you could cover another band’s song, what would it be?

We have covered songs before in the past, but we’re probably go for an ELO song maybe?

Ooh, yeah, I like that! Can you sum up your good selves in just five words?

I guess I probably could, yeah, right… I’ll say; terrifying… erm, can I use more than five words [FF: I suppose, that’s breaking the rules, and you’ll look like you can’t count.] okay, we’re like an explosion of killer noises for the dead to wake up to and the living to die to.

That’s interesting, slightly morbid but we can run with that… but what makes you stand out from the crowd?

I guess it would be our music! We don’t think that we sound like anyone in particular. We think we sound a lot like our varied influences, which we want to sound like! Although, if you came to see us live it would be our live show because we’re very inclusive of the audience and we have a big party, it’s fun!

So who are a couple of your influences then?

It’s really varied, we all come from different backgrounds, we listen to everything but I think the main ones are ELO, White Zombie who are an awesome band who are a big influence on me, Refused; another awesome band. But we also like weird stuff like Prince, Justice and White Stripes, Death From Above and Faith No More.

Ooh, so what three bands would you have to headline your dream festival?

I’d like Death From Above opening up,. Then Faith No More, and then ELO headlining.

Good choices, I want to come! So if all of the bands equipment was on fire, what one piece would you save and why?

It does happen occasionally, so I can answer this one… we never save the drum kit, that can always go into flames. We never save the bass amp or anything. I guess what we’d probably save would be one pedal and everything else can just burn!

I love it, great answer, but if you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Oh, let me have a look through my CD’s, just a second….. Argh! This is a horrible question! I’d probably say I’d listen to the Mars Volta… but there are so many out there. Actually, I want to change that, I’d pick Pink Floyd, Dark Side Of The Moon.

Good answer, well, it’s been great speaking to you and best of luck with everything.
