Same Difference
Same Difference are possibly the cutest, cheesiest and most lovable brother and sister in pop. In fact they are preferably the only people in pop at the moment…
But after coming third in the X Factor in 2007 they are finally ready to let their bubblegum pop loose on the world of music - just in time for Christmas! I caught up the with gorgeous Sean and the cute Sarah to find out just how exited they were!
Hey Sarah and Sean, what are you up to?
Sean: We’ve been doing the X Factor and GMTV and a kid’s TV show, it’s been really really good.
Up really early then?
Sarah: Yeah, really early! We’ve been up at like six in the morning for the past two weeks.
Yuck! So good things now…how has the reaction been to your debut so far?
Sean; it’s been really good and people seem to be loving the song and what we’ve heard back so far is looking pretty good.
What have you been getting up to over the past 12 months?
Sarah: Well we went on the X Factor tour which was just incredible and we played to thousands and thousands of people. Then we went to Sweden to record our debut single album and then we went over to LA to do our video with the same people who were behind Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time, so we have actually had the most amazing year of our lives.
You also have a new album in the pipeline; can you tell me about that?
Sean: It’s out on Monday and it’s just pure pop and brings back all the best of the nineties and it’s an amazing album and we’ve worked with someone of the best people who have been behind Britney and Backstreet Boys and it’s really upbeat and great for all the family.
Who do you look up to within the music industry?
Sarah: It’s weird because there aren’t really any pop acts out there at the moment that we can say; “Wow, they‘re doing amazing and we think they‘re great.†[FF: That’s what you’re here for!] Yay! When we were growing up I was really into Steps and S Club & and I always loved Whitney Houston and singers like that but Sean preferred rock music and was brought up on Meat Loaf and Bon Jovi so it’s a weird mixture but it works!
Who do you think is the best artist around at the moment?
Sean: I love listening to Kings Of Leon at the minute, I think they’re fantastic. I also just bought Leona Lewis’ repackaged album and that cover of Run is just amazing and I love it and can’t stop listening to it. Oh, and The Script, I like listening to them too.
What was the last CD you bought?
Sarah: It was yesterday and it was We R One by Same Difference! We went into HMV and bought our single.
If you could go on tour with any band, who would it be?
Sean: I think we should have a Steps and S Club reunion and us go on tour with them and we’ll do the biggest pop party ever.
There’s a S Club reunion on at the moment but there are only like 3 of them, make up the numbers!
Sarah: I know, it’s dead sad, when I heard that S Club were doing it I was like: “That will be amazing!†and then it’s just the three that people don’t remember.
Have you been watching this year’s X Factor?
Sean: Yeah, absolutely.
Who do you like best?
Sean: I have to say Alexandra, we met her the other day and she was just so lovely. People keep saying that she’s quite similar to Leona and that could go against her but I really wish her all the best. And Eoughan too; he’s really good.
Who do you think will be the final three then?
Sarah: Well we’re hoping it will be Alexandra, JLS and Eoughan but I think Diana will get in there somehow.
I want Ruth!
Sean: I was going to say Ruth, but she’s pretty underrated despite pulling out amazing performances. She needs to be respected for that because she has done some of the best performances of the whole series. [FF: I know! When she sang purple rain I cried!] Yeah, she was incredible at Knocking on Heavens Door too.
So what was it like going back and performing your new single in front of Simon?
Sarah: It was great but still nerve-wracking and we were absolutely petrified but we absolutely loved being there and when we got back up on the stage we still felt like we were being judged and it was really strange but being back there was great.
Simon was really nice to us and Louis took back all the nasty comments he gave us last year. So victory was sweet!
So what has been the highlight of the past 12 months?
Sean: I think it would be our X Factor performance because we’d worried about it for so long and we knew we had to do a great show. Once it was over we were almost like; “Thank God it’s over.†and Simon was really pleased which was great and of course hearing Louis take back what he said about us.
What is the hardest part of living the dream?
Sarah: I think the hardest part is the early morning starts because most day’s we’re up at five or six and we’re going to be at like two in the morning because of all the gig’s we’re doing. And people think that this is the most easy job in the whole world just prancing around and being a popstar for a day but you are on tour all the time and you never get to see your family and you’re absolutely shattered too.
When did you last feel inspired?
Sarah: I think the last time for me was when we went to the Pride Of Britain Awards and seeing those people there who weren’t famous but had done such incredible things really hit home to us. There are some amazing people out there and I felt so humble and lucky to be there.
We ask everyone we interview to come up with a question for the next person we interview and Simon Gavin from A & M Records wants to know; "If you we could only listen to one song for the rest of your life; what would it be?"
Sarah: Same Difference - Pop
Sean:That’s so cliché! I think you would get sick of hearing yourself! Mine would be Bon Jovi’s Crossroads. It’s amazing album and they are all classics on there.

Sean: If you were a biscuit what would you be an why?
Ooh, what would you be?
Sarah: I’d be a jammy dodger.
I’d be a party ring!
