Sam Beeton is hotly tipped to be the next big singer/songwriter to dominate the airwaves. With his debut single and album poised for release, FemaleFirst jumped at the chance to get to know this singer before fame and fortune took hold!
What have you been up to recently?
Ive been doing quite a lot of gigging and just got off tour with The Splits as well as doing V Festival a few weeks ago.
So your debut single is ready for release, how are you feeling about it?
Im pretty relaxed about the whole thing, I dont really feel much pressure on how it does in the charts, Id be pretty content if it just makes its way up there eventually.Im just going to take it as it comes, I think if you get nervous and hung up on it, it doesnt make for happy times so Im just taking it as it comes. You have your debut album coming soon afterwards, can you tell me about the record?
It took about three years to bring it all together which is quite a long time, I started making the original demos when I was still in school and I think the inspiration is from my brother and father who both have extensive record collections and theyre always bringing new stuff to the table so I never run out of inspiration.
Im just one of those people that write all the time so I had loads of songs and then I had to cut it down to 13 but Im pretty pleased with the end result and I think its a good effort for a first album.
Do you have a favourite song from the album?
I like a song called Time Takes Its Toll because Im particularly proud of the arrangement and words in it and I can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it, it seems to stay fresh which doesnt happen a lot.
Whats the meaning behind the title No Definite Answer?
Its actually a lyric out of Time Takes Its Toll and it describes whats going on at the moment because no-one really has an idea of how to present me because there are so many singer/songwriters out there and we didnt want to get caught up in the trend and no-one really had a definite answer as to how I should be presented so I thought it was a very fitting title.
To anyone who hasnt heard of you yet, how would you describe your sound?
Id say its pretty laid back, chilled music and its similar to someone like Jack Johnson.
There are so many singer/songwriters on the scene at the moment; what do you think sets you apart from everyone else?
I think the fact that I play everything on the record; for example the drums, the bass and the piano, and Ive written all the songs so I think thats my USP so to speak!
How did you get into the music industry?
I got spotted playing at this gig I used to do at a pub near me, I did a residency there and a local guy made a recording of me playing live and asked if he could play it to his friend who turned out to be someone who worked in a studio and it got through to a producer who then went ahead and made some demos. I didnt go looking for a record contract, it just sort of happened.
What do you think youd be doing if you werent a musician?
Thats a hard one! Id probably still be playing, maybe as a session musician or failing that I would probably have gone into acting.
So you want to be famous then?
I dont think I want to be major famous, I just want to be more independent and low-key.
Who do you look up to within the industry?
People like Paul Weller and people who have a knack for re-inventing themselves now and again and can always come up with something fresh. Im not really a massive Madonna fan but shes done a pretty good job at staying up there.
We ask everyone we interview to come up with a question for the next person we interview....and Eternal Lord want to know If you could be any super hero who would you be and why?
Id be Daredevil because hes a bit of an edgy character and hes like a frustrated soul!
And what would you like to ask my next interviewee?
If you could be in any film what would it be and who would you play?
