Ny

Ny

Ny is an RnB singer who has been in the music industry for some time - appearing on records by the likes of Tinchy Stryder and The Street.

But now she is making a name for herself with her own record as she is set to release her debut single Be With You.

I caught up with her to talk about her new record, and album and hitting the road with N'Dubz.

- Your debut single Be With You is about to be released so what can we expect for it?

Well it’s mid tempo it’s got a lot of vibe on it it’s kind of like a female spin on the usual story, the guy he’s got his girlfriend/wife then his bit on the side or his link and he’s always saying 'im gonna be with you I wana be with you' but he never does.

So I wanted to put a female spin on it and flip it the other way so it was the girl torn between two people, saying I can’t be with you, you know I want to. It’s just fun.

- The song sees you collaborate with Giggs so how did that come about? And what was he like to work with?

When we were in the studio me and Davinche, we finished the track and I said there’s only two people I want on the track, that I think whose voice would suit it first being Drake, (laughs) which wasn’t that accessible then second was Giggs, so we were like gonna run with Giggs, so I hunted him on twitter and he was like right let me hear it, I picked him up from 1xtra then we went to the studio and  he done it.

He’s kinda quiet and he’s got a really good sense of humour, he’s quite funny.

- You have featured on several records including that of Tinchy Strider and The Streets so how does it feel to be finally stepping out on your own?

Yeah brilliant, I’ve always been a strong female artist and it’s nice that my fanbase is growing and I’m just here doing my own thing, definitely it’s a great feeling and I know there’s a lot more to come

- And is there an album in the pipeline and what can we expect from that?

Yeah, there’s definitely an album I’m always writing and creating new material it’s gonna be very fresh and new and a fusion of great sounds basically a fusion of different genres that makes NY sounds.

-  You have described you album as 'me' and 'my sound' so how would you describe your sound? And who are you big influences?

It’s a fusion of sounds influenced from the grime scene, growing up listening to a lot of reggae, loving soul and stuff like that, soulful but it’s very current because I love the UK and I love UK music, so definitely got a good UK feel to it.

Growing up I listened to a lot of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and a lot of reggae artists like Bob Marley and then also little element like I love guitars, I’ve really got a thing about guitars, so that’s taken me to things like Simon and Garfunkel and again Bob Marley.

- And you have reached this point in your music career without a major label and PR support and so on so how difficult a journey has it been to get to this point? Would you have had it any other way?

It’s been extremely difficult, I mean music is a very hard career to be in hard as well when you’ve come from a normal background, not having money you know just working hard to finance all my projects and to get my videos together and networking to be able to work with people that I really want to work with, so its definitely been hard but no I wouldn’t do it any different as its helped shape me as an artist and as a person.

- You are about to hit the role with N'Dubz so you must be excited about getting your music out on tour?

Yeah well I’m on tour now, were doing our 2nd date tonight, so yeah it’s amazing, really excited , the first gig was great we were received really well and I did all new tracks so I was nervous that they didn’t know it but actually it was great

- And touring with N'Dubz - they are a big band - I read that you are good friends with Tulisa.

Yeah, we’re really good friends, I’m friends with the boys as well but she’s one of my best friends

- Finally what's next for you?

Just bringing out the album, and more shows just evolving and getting the NY movement out as much as possible, growing and growing the fanbase really.

Ny's single Be With You is released 15th May.
