When I saw Not Advised on the Kerrang! Introducing page, I knew they were a band I could either sit up and take note of now, or expect to have shoved in my face by all the music rags in the coming months.
So, because they seemed pretty cool, and their support set with You Me At Six was pretty wicked, we decided to catch up with the band for a quickie.
Hello there Not Advised, what are you up to?
Hi! I’m sat at my computer eating a bacon sandwich and wishing I wasn’t so tired!
So, you’re getting ready to release your new EP 'Fight For This' can you tell us a bit about it?
It’s a 5 track mini-album which we’ve released through our own record label “…is a Rockstar Records”. It’s a catchy British alternative rock CD recorded in Cardiff and produced by Romesh Dodangoda. We’re really proud of it.
There is a lot of competition in the business today, do you think you have what it takes to give the big names a run for their money?
100%. It’s so competitive these days but we all genuinely believe we’ve got what it takes. That’s half the battle won, now it’s just a case of getting people to agree with us.
So, if you could recommend just one song of yours for us to download so that we want to hear all of your music, what would it be?
“Right Now” I think is a pretty good summary of our band and what you can expect from the rest of the CD. That said we’d honestly be happy for you to pick any one track from “Fight For This” and judge us on that.
If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching Big Brother, how would you get me out of the house?
Big Brother’s rubbish, dying slowly and you spend most of the time sat still in a house watching a bunch of people sat still in a house. Not Advised aren’t dying slowly, hopefully aren’t rubbish and you’ll spend the night watching 5 people give 110% energy into a performance, get everyone involved and do their best to make sure you have a good night.
We’ve got to admit you’re a little bit cool, so what advice would you give to someone just starting out, knowing what you know now?
Don’t worry about what other people are doing around you, because the more time you spend worrying about other bands/artists the less time you’re spending on yourself. Also things don’t always happen overnight, sometimes you’ll work for months or years and feel like you’re not moving forward, but things do happen in the end, and when they do it’s worth it.
So, if Not Advised was an acronym what would each letter stand for?
Not Advised
On
Tour
Always
Deliver
Very
Intense
Shows
Every
Day
I’m well aware how rubbish that is but it’s actually really difficult!
If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“Forty Hour Train Back to Penn” by The Movielife. That’s probably my favourite CD.
Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions (that I robbed off my stepsisters’s MySpace page);
What were you doing last night at 11?
Replying to messages on our myspace and listening to New Found Glory.
What are you going to do after this interview?
Another interview, then I’m going to write a new blog.
When was the last time you did something incredibly stupid?
This morning I drove for about 3 miles in the van before realizing the handbrake was on!
What’s the last film you saw?
In the cinema the last thing I saw was the latest Harry Potter I think, but I watched Waynes World on DVD last night.
What’s the last thing you bought?
A Fully Loaded meal (Towered up) from KFC
Yumm, speaking of food, I think it’s lunch time. Best of luck with everything.
