MPHO

MPHO

MPHO is a British talent like no other. A genre-defying singer, songwriter and producer, she has enormous global crossover pop potential. Already a name to drop amongst people in the know, MPHO is set to be one of the most exciting names of 2009. I caught up with the little fox for a chat.

Hello there, what are you up to?

right now I’m in a padded room answering your questions!! It’s not what it seems!!

So, you’re getting ready to release your new  album can you tell us a bit about it?

The album is called Pop Art and the first single released form the album is called Box n Locks. They are both about self definition and being all you can be.

The new single from that, comes out on soon, why are you releasing that track now?

I was bullied at school and the next track I’m releasing, See Me Now is a bit of a come back at those people, telling them that I am fulfilling my dreams as telling them where they can stick their pipe and smoke it!

There is a lot of competition in the business today, do you think you have what it takes to give the big names a run for their money?

Definitely otherwise I wouldn’t be here. It’s not easy, and loads have people have prepared for this but you have to believe its possible and believe in yourself and ability otherwise there is no point, you may as well pack your bags now.

So, if you could recommend just one song of yours for us to download so that we want to hear all of your music, what would it be?

Box and Locks it’s the only one that’s out now!!

If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching Big Brother, how would you get me out of the house?

There’s not much hope for you if you at home watching Big Brother. Big Brother is too predictable, I’m the complete opposite. But if there was one way, I’d give you a free ticket to one of my gigs, if that doesn’t wok nothing will!!

We’ve got to admit you’re a little bit cool, so what advice would you give to someone just starting out, knowing what you know now?

Stay true to who you are, you lose that you don’t have much else. Have a clear goal, I find this really helps to focus what you want to achieve and when you want to achieve it.

So, if MPHO was an acronym what would each letter stand for?

This is a difficult one but I’m going to go for:

MAKE
PEOPLE
HUG
OORAGUTANS

No idea why, just sounds fun!

If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Prince’s PURPLE RAIN. Musical masterpiece by a musical genius. Definitely the best album I own.

Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions (that I robbed off my stepsisters’s MySpace page); What were you doing last night at 11?

I was in a cab on the way back form a gig listening to Ou Est El Swimming on Nick Grimshaw show after having done a really fun gig at a place in Old Street called the Legion

What are you going to do after this interview?

Going home, cook dinner, put together a meeting agenda and some boring business stuff that needs to be done. Sometimes you have to do the boring stuff to have time for the exciting stuff!

When was the last time you did something incredibly stupid?

the other day I was, for no reason whatsoever racing my sister at opening and closing cupboard draws. My sister one every time. I now know that if draw closing was an Olympic sport, I’d be rubbish

What’s the last film you saw?

Waltz With Basir, really enjoyed it and thought it was beautifully put together

What’s the last thing you bought?

A pair of Kurt Geiger shoes, really high, strappy black pair, their my news favourites!!

Aero and MPHO have launched a Facebook application called Aero Thought Bubbles, letting you put your thoughts on your favourite Facebook images.
