Luigi Masi

As Luigi Masi gears up for the release of his debut single, Armed With Love, we thought it was only fair that we caught up with the man who has already supported musical giants the Sugababes, to find out just what makes him tick.

Hello there, how are things going in your lovely world?

Good thank you! Just got back from the dentist so still recovering, my gums are all numb!

To anyone who hasn’t heard of you yet, how would you describe your sound?

It's sophisticated pop music infused with dance, rock and urban influences. All the songs I do are stuff that I would listen to myself and I have really high standards so you won't be disappointed.

Tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your foxy new record…

Well my album "Save His Shoes" came about last Summer, actually no, it's a longer story than that. I started work on an album 2 years, it was initially a pop/rock album, but at the start of last year I started experimenting with electro sounds and so my label and I decided to scrap the old album and do a new one, that's how "Save His Shoes" came about.

My single "Armed With Love" was actually on of the 3 songs I didn't write on the album. I don't normally take songs I didn't write unless I really like it and feel I can somehow relate to it, and with that song I could. I'm really lucky actually as Beyonce originally recorded it for her latest album but it didn't suit her sound, so she passed it on to me.

If you were going to give us just one song of yours to listen to so that you would become our new favourite singer, what would it be?

I would probably have to choose "Strangers Again". It's a truly amazing song, so bittersweet yet euphoric. Hopefully it'll be my next single so everyone can hear it.

If you could cover another musician’s song, what would it be?

Tough question as I don't think anyone should cover other peoples songs unless they can bring something new to their interpretation of it. Otherwise it'll just be cheap karaoke.

And can you sum up your good self in just five words?

Lots of amazing pop songs.

What makes you stand out from the crowd?

I'm only 18! And I'm a guy doing pop music. You don't see that anymore. In fact I think it could be safe to say I'm like the only teenage male pop artist. Go me!

You know we’re having a bit of an economic crisis here at the moment, if people wanted to spend their last £10 on a cd this weekend, why should they buy yours?

Because it's a super collection of pop songs, honestly, I think all the tracks can be singles. Also it's only around £6.99 so you'll save a few pounds from your tenner! If you really don't like it you can always send me hate mail on Twitter.

What three bands would you have to headline your dream festival?

Hmm tough question! Metro Station, Kanye West and Kings Of Leon. A bit of an odd mix but yeah, that'd rock me for sure!

What has been your favourite musical memory to date?

It would have to be the time when I played at the London O2. It was just so amazing being in front of 22,000 people all cheering for me!

Who do you think is the greatest artist around at the moment?

Rihanna. She's just so cutting edge and such a trendsetter. Three years ago she was nothing and now she's a world superstar.

If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Probably Justin Timberlake’s last album as it was so innovate and he has an amazing voice.

Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions; Name an experience which features an animal that you will never forget.

I was in Morocco once and went out to the desert. They were offering donkey rides over the dunes so I thought I'd try it. Next thing I know I'm sitting on it's back and suddenly it jumps forward and the guide loses the rope and so the donkey is just running free in the desert. Safe to say I'll never go on them again after that.

What one thing did you always want as a child but never get?

I think I can say I got everything I ever truly wanted as a child. I feel so blessed to have such amazing parents.
