Joywride

Joywide are set to return with their new EP 21st Century Love, which they are offering free on Facebook for the next two weeks.

We caught up with Ollie to chat about the new EP as well what is on the horizon going into the new year.

- You are going to be playing a show on November 22nd at London Soho to launch your new EP 21st Century Love so how excited are you to be premiering these new tracks?

We certainly are.. We'll of course be playing the lead single but we maybe sneaking a few unheard tracks in.

This has been a long time coming, finally people are going to have something to hold on to and enjoy.

- I have heard the track 21st Century Love and there is a real Glam Rock sound to the song so why did you take the sound of your music down this road?

It's hard to say, whilst I don't think there was ever a conscious decision in my mind to write or produce it in any specific way.

I always know what I want from an idea, I feel that some songs want to come out in a specific way you just go where it takes you.

- And while there is a bit of nostalgic sound to your music there is also a contemporary feel to it as well so how difficult do you find it striking that balance?

Definitely and I'm glad you recognised that. You have to be culturally relevant and you make yourself that way by being true to the world around you without sounding to preachy.

Having said that, there is a good reason why a classic is a classic, it transcends through the years which is very important to have. Classic anthems for the modern age is where our heads are at.

- I was reading that the likes of Queen and Daft Punk are just two of the bands that influence you so what is it about these musicians and their music that really inspires you?

One thing that just sings from these acts among others is there unashamed nature, that face off against everything else.

There's a great confidence and belief in their music and it's totally enthralling - the songs, the musicianship, the spectacle they're all statements.

Few artists manage to grasp one of those ingredients let alone all of them - so this was always very mesmerising to me.

- Have you had any early feedback on the new tracks yet and if so how are they going down?

So far it's going really well, it's even appealing to audiences that don't even listen to this sort of thing. It's quite astounding how it's connecting. We're very humbled.

- Rod Futrille has produced the track 21st Century Love so how did that collaboration come about?

Well we were introduced by my record label at the time. We were both writing and my A&R team put us together to work and we really hit it off.

It's not very often where you get to connect with someone on such a unique level and maintain the relationship. We're already crafting some tunes for the next record, let's see how this one goes first.

- What did his experience bring to the track? And how did you find working with him?

We wrote very quickly and the quality was very high. I was a huge fan of his music and we shared a lot of the same tastes, so coming up with the idea wasn't too tricky.

I think his pop sensibilities are second to none and he really taught me a lot about how to approach writing and even my playing. We're still working now so we must be doing something right.

- And have you any live shows planned for the run up to Christmas?

A few dates that have just been confirmed, the first tying in with my birthday!

30/11/12 Camden Barfly
20/12/12 XOYO

- So where did your love of music start and how did the band form?

There are some records that just resonate with you when you're young, I'm trying to plug back into the hearts of them all the time to keep me going and striving for something.. and I think we all do that.

Music has the infinite ability to make you feel everything and nothing and that's where the love for it stems from.

I formed the band a year or so ago, to cut a long story short I put out ads in colleges and asked friends if they knew of any like minded people who would come and try out.

One thing lead to another and here is the result. We were all hungry to make something of ourselves. We just stuck at it until the doors started to open.

- You have an ever growing fan base so for any of those fans who are reading this interview do you have a message for them?

You are the fire that keeps us burning, we absolutely cherish our supporters. We hope to showing a lot more of ourselves in 2013 and beyond.

- Finally what is next for you heading into 2013?

We've got a lot of exciting things in the pipeline, we'll have another single for you in February time, maybe a support slot in the spring and maybe stateside we'll see ;)

The band are giving away their new EP 21st Century Love for a limited period of two weeks only, via a ‘like to download’ campaign on their Facebook page,www.facebook.com/joywrideofficial.
