New international artist, Nindy Kaur, is preparing to bring something new to the UK music scene and is said to be “an act to watch in 2012”.
The ‘Bhangra beauty’ was born and raised in the UK, however is a household name in India thanks to her music. The singer has become a popular playback singer in Bollywood and has seen herself in the number one spot of the charts after the release of her first two singles released in India.
“It mixes traditional Bhangra beats with elements of mainstream dance, RnB, pop and Bollywood.”
But the singer is now aiming to break out onto the British music scene and has already created a wave of interest amongst the media, not to mention her fans.
Nindy was “brought up on the traditional sound of Bhangra” and this has helped to influence her individual sound. “It mixes traditional Bhangra beats with elements of mainstream dance, RnB, pop and Bollywood.”
She was first recognised for her musical talent by her husband and RDB member, Manj. “I was like everyone else; a superstar singer in my car and in my shower, but Manj really liked my voice and kept insisting I get into the studio…” She added: “He has been the back bone of my music, confidence, voice and support.”
Manj is one of three brothers who make up Rhythm Dhol Bass, which was formed in 2000 and is one of the leading South Asian producer/entertainment groups in the world.
Nindy was given an opportunity to kick-start her career when RDB requested a female singer for one of their tracks. “I gave it a go and the rest is history.” Since then Nindy has made countless records with the brothers and says that there are “many more in the works.”
The singer has been fortunate enough to work with Culture Shock, who has previously worked with Lady Gaga and Nicole Sherzinger, as well. She reveals that in the future she would also like to work with other pop artists including Sean Paul, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and Rihanna.
Despite enjoying collaborative projects, the singer is “excited” about going solo. She already has two singles out, ‘Two Seater’ and ‘Deewani’, and says that a third, ‘BBM’, is “right around the corner”. Nindy is also set to release her first, 10-track album ‘Nindypendent’, early this year. 2012 will also see Nindy start her world tour which goes by the same name as her album.
Apart from being recognised in the music industry, Nindy is also well-known in film. Her work with RDB has been featured in movies such as Kambakkth Ishq (2009), which starred Akshay Kumar, Denise Richards and Sylvester Stallone, and she is an ambassador for the IIFA, the Indian equivalent to the Oscars. The singer has performed at the awards ceremony in the past to a global audience of over 60 million people.
