Girls Can't Catch

Girls Can't Catch

As the super gorgeous Girls Can’t Catch prepare to release their single, Keep Your Head Up on August 3rd, I caught up with the super beautiful Phoebe - who you might recognise as the star of the X Factor’s Hope - to find out a little more about the girls.

Hello there pretty, how are things going with you all?

Heya! Good thank you we're very busy and we're loving our job, we are very blessed!

Now, you're just about to unleash your foxy new single on the world, tell us a little bit about it. What made you decide to release this particular single first?

Well it’s called 'Keep Your Head Up' and we love it. It’s a slice of gritty pop a bit different from anything else out there. It’s also a very positive and empowering song lyrically, and we love our video too as we're playing croquet in a dump! It can't get better than that haha!

For people that don't know, you're from the same label as Girls Aloud and The Saturdays. Does this mean you're going to be taking over the pop charts and being slapped all over teenagers’ bedrooms any time soon?

I hope so! We have really great songs and our team at management and our record label are brilliant. We are determined and passionate people, so all we can do is work our hardest and hope people love our music!

How did you guys come together?

We were all doing our own things in the music industry and we were scouted by our record label to become a three piece- it was the best phone call of my life! Luckily we all get on amazingly well and we have a lot of fun, and don't take ourselves too seriously!

Are you worried that you might come across as too much of a manufactured pop band?

No we're not worried. You can’t worry about things like that- we take each day as it comes otherwise we would stress out because we are so busy. You have to be pretty strong to work in the music industry

What was it like when you went on tour with Girls Aloud then, were they dead nice?

The girls are fab, they're very hard working and I think that's why they've lasted so long. Cheryl advised us not to read about ourselves on the internet as a minority of people can be unpleasant.

Oh no! I’m an online journalist, I promise I’ll write nice things! Anyway, was it super scary getting on stage in front of so many people?

At first of course! That first night we were shaking so much, but we started to enjoy it more over the course of the performance and lose the nerves! We love performing.

Do you think that has helped to establish you as a band, whereas someone who are just playing in their local working mans club might find it a lot harder?

I think we have been very lucky. We're three girls who have been given a massive opportunity. So many people try to make it in the industry and it’s only a lucky few who succeed. We all know what it’s like to be struggling to make it- you get turned down constantly but if you're strong and don't give up eventually something will happen for you.

Phoebe, you were on the X Factor as part of Hope, did you find it difficult to ditch the rest of the band once Girls Can't Catch came along?

I was very close to the Hope girls and we had a great time after X Factor. We were together for a year and a half, but sometimes in your heart you know when something's not going to work and you have to grab an opportunity that's been given to you! I could never have said no to this!

Also, we have to ask about the whole Dolly Rockers thing. what's the deal there? (we heard they don't like you)

I can't say we're too fussed if they don't like us-everyone is entitled to an opinion, but what I will say is that we don't like to bitch about other bands. I still haven't heard their music so can't comment on them, but despite what they've said, if their songs were any good, I'd still say so!

Anyway, we want to ask about nicer things now, so which bands do you admire?

Destiny’s Child! They were amazing. Obviously the Saturdays and Girls Aloud too. All three bands are amazing performers!

If you could cover any song since the day music began, which would you like to have a crack at?

I love Ben by Michael Jackson… Like a lot of people, I've been revisiting his music recently. We've actually covered Daniel Merriweather's Red recently, we did it at Glastonbury! It’s on YouTube, and was great fun.

So, with so many pop groups trying to 'make it’, what makes you stand out from the crowd?

Well we've been compared to Girls Aloud and described as the All Saints to their Spice Girls! That's not a bad comparison!

Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions; Firstly, tell me about the most terrifying experience of your life.

Mmmm oh i hate heights so much!! Recently I was at Thorpe park and I get on a new ride called 'saw' and I totally freaked out! I wanted to get off but it was too late!! I was trembling and holding hands with anyone who came near me!

What's the most stupid purchase you've ever made?

Mmm so many clothes which I have never worn! So I end up giving bags and bags to charity shops! I bought so many to a charity shop once they turned it down haha!!

Why go to the top of a tall building, only to put money in binoculars and look at things on the ground?

Good point!!!! I suppose because you can feel invincible up there!

Aww, well it was lovely speaking to you, you’re the nicest girl band ever, so good luck with everything!

Aw well thank you!! Talk soon! Bye!
