Eoghan Quigg won over the UK’s hearts during his stint on X Factor last year, and although he didn’t win, he’s still managed to squeeze a very sexy covers album out of it all. I caught up with the teenage heart throb to find out how he’s coping with life in the limelight.
Hello there pretty, how excited are you about your new album?
I love it, it’s great, it’s something that’s completely separate from the X Factor and it’s actually all mine and it’s really, really cool.
How did you pick the songs that made it onto the album?
It was a joint decision between me and a producer and songs were really different and would make the album really versatile for the listener.
How have you found life since leaving the X Factor?
It’s been crazy, I’m getting loads of attention everywhere I go and it’s just unbelievable. Hopefully loads more unbelievable stuff will happen.
And how did you find the X Factor experience, were you always happy with Simon’s song choices?
Yeah, I thought his song choices were always great. I never really had a bad week in the show.
What was your favourite song that you sung?
Probably Never Forget. I liked one More Try thought as well.
Ours was High School Musical! But do you think the right person won in the end?
Yes, I mean Alex had an amazing voice, but the fact that I won six of the shows left me quite shocked that I didn’t win, but I wish Alex all the best because she’s such a lovely girl.
Did you feel cheated at the end then?
I did for maybe like a week, no-one could get through on the phone lines so I thought they jammed them on purpose which was a bit unfair, but maybe not, maybe people just didn’t vote. All that doesn’t matter now because I’m doing really well now, everything happens for a reason.
To anyone who didn‘t watch the X Factor, how would you describe your sound?
Fun, energetic and upbeat with some slow songs but overall really enjoyable.
You wrote your debut single with James from Busted, how did you find that?
Yeah, when I did Year 3000 on the show he wanted to write a song for me so it was super exciting.
If you were going to give us just one song of yours to listen to so that you would become our new favourite singer, what would it be?
There’s a song on there called Learn To Fly which is a really, really nice track. I don’t know really, I like them all!
If you could cover another musician’s song that you didn‘t get the chance to on X Factor, what would it be?
George Michael’s One More Try. I did it on the show but it didn’t make it onto the album so maybe if we record another album then we can slip that one in!
What makes you stand out from the crowd?
Because I’m young, fun and energetic and I always do my best for everyone.
What three bands would you have to headline your dream festival?
Kings Of Leon, The Script and Snow Patrol.
What has been your favourite musical memory to date?
Singing with Boyzone in the final of the X Factor.
Who do you think is the greatest artist around at the moment - other than yourself obviously?
There are a lot of good one’s a the moment, Lady Gaga is doing pretty well. I love Robbie Williams too, he’s my favourite of all time.
We like him too, do you want him to get back with Take That?
No, I like him better on his own, I hope he brings out more stuff.
He’s too busy chasing aliens! So, if you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Eoghan Quigg. No I’m joking, haha, it would have to be The Script’s album!
Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions; tell me about an experience with an animal you’ll never forget.
I remember when my goldfish was nearly ready to die and his tank was all green and nearly dead. I took him out of the tank and put him in a wee cup and I washed the tank and fed him and the next day I woke up and he was swimming about again; I brought him back to life!
Wow, you’re like Dr Doolittle, and what one thing did you always want as a child but never get?
To play for Manchester United.
Ooh, awesome, now, we ask everyone we interview to come up with a question for the next person, and the winner of American Idol, David Cook, wants to know; “If you could me in any movie, what would it be?”
It would probably have to be The Fast And The Furious. The new one with Vin Diesel looks pretty cool.
Ooh, you need a driving licence first… now can you come up with a question for the next person I interview please?
What music video from the past would you love to be in?
What would yours be?
Lady Gaga’s Just Dance, it’s like a house party.
