Eddie Halliwell

Eddie Halliwell

Everyone's favourite DJ, Eddie Halliwell, is gearing up for his set at Cream's Easter Special, and obviously with that in mind, we had to get our little mitts all over him to find out just how to be down with the kids in 2009.

You haven’t played in the home of Cream for a while, are you looking forward to it?

Yes, I always look forward to playing for Cream at Nation. I’ve not played there for about a year now, the atmosphere is always amazing and the crowd very responsive so I am ready and raring to get back there!

What have you got in store to make sure that you come back with a bang?

Come along and see for yourself – it will definitely be going off with a bang!

You played Creamfields 10th Anniversary, how was it being part of the big celebration?

It was a privilege to be part of the 10th anniversary last year. It was the first time Cream had done the festival over 2 days and everyone was still going strong and up for it when I played the Sunday - the gig and crowd were immense.

You have just launched your new myebook, can you tell us a little bit about this?

Myebook.com is the ultimate platform for any personal or corporate publications. It’s easy to embed or link to videos, audio, documents, images and flash files to make the books fully interactive, and what’s more, since the whole myebook.com system if community-based, getting the message out to the audience is easy.

Other sites such as myspace and Facebook are very limited when it comes to presentation, just utilising one flat page. Myebook.com can basically showcase anything – the possibilities are endless.

I see myebook.com as an archiving machine, which allows me to publish fresh material constantly.

You are very online savvy with all of your campaigns; do you find the worldwide web one of the best ways to reach all of your fans?

Definitely, it’s the most powerful way of reaching people. Almost everyone communicates on the web now, with massive clubbing communities forming all over the world.

Who or what has been the biggest influence

New technology.

How was your summer season over in Ibiza with Cream?

I always love playing in Ibiza, it’s one of my favourite places to play in the world. Cream at Amnesia gets better year on year. I’m itching to get back over there for this season.

Was there any stand out moments for you?

One moment that stands out - doing press ups on the dancers balcony with Vernon Kay on my back

Do you think that your performance is important behind the decks?

Yes, definitely. There are many different aspects to DJing, but the performance is very important, especially when it comes to the interaction with the crowd - This is what gives me my buzz and brings more out of me as a DJ.

You really project your energy into the crowds, how do you keep yourself going even when you have been flying around the world?

Just generally try and keep fit and look after myself.

What was your first big breakthrough as an act? What would you rate as the best experience that you’ve had in the music scene so far?

I started off gigging on the Manchester scene. My first big breakthrough was at a gig called 2Klub

The best and most memorable experience has probably got to be playing to 1.5 million people in Rio on New Years Eve

What's more important? The mix or the next tune?

A combination of both really - being a DJ, I get a lot of my energy from the mix.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I wouldn’t like to say, I am a big believer in not tempting fate!

Can we expect any crowd surfing at the Cream Easter Special?

If the crowd are fired up, I’ll get fired up!

Do you ever play any new tunes that unknown DJ’s have sent you?

Yes course I do, I get sent so much music. Discovering new producers and music keeps the scene fresh. If a tune is a belter, I’ll fire it on

Your home town is pretty close to Liverpool; will you have family and friends at the Cream Easter Special?

It’s nice getting the opportunity to play local gigs. It’s one of the rare opportunities I get to see my mates. Being on the road limits you from seeing friends and family as much as I’d like to, so yes, I am sure there’ll be quite a team of us out at Cream.

What will you be doing to get the crowds shouting ‘Eddie, Eddie, Eddie?’ at Cream?

Hopefully by giving them all the fire they require!
