Dir En Grey

Dir En Grey

Dir En Grey are one of the most enigmatic bands I’ve ever interviewed, mainly because I got to speak to them through a translator, which was rather exiting, but as Billy Talent boomed out from the main stage, I caught five minutes with the band.

Hey guys! This is your first time here at Download isn’t it?

Yes, this is our first time.

And who are you excited to watch?

Tonight I am excited for Faith No More.

Are you staying for the whole weekend?

We have to leave tomorrow morning unfortunately.

Oh no! Do you prefer it here at a festival or at one of Dir En Grey’s own gigs? I hear they can get pretty wild!

Personally I love both, when it’s out tour it feels totally free, but for creating a great show, I think it might be nicer to have a great atmosphere like these festivals have.

You’ve also played The Kerrang! Tour over here with Bring Me The Horizon and Mindless Self Indulgence, how did you find the British fans responded?

Well it was very surprising for us because we knew we had fans here in the UK but it was amazing because so many bands were playing and we didn’t expect to have as much support as we did. We were really happy to see those fans having a great time, but at the same time, the sad thing was that the last show had to be cancelled because of a blackout and I hated that.

So, the previous album was released in November 2008, is there going to be any more stuff?

Well before we came into Europe we had a couple of weeks to create songs so we have a few things in mind,. Right after this tour we will be in the studio again, I can’t promise anything right now but when the good baby is born, new songs will be coming out.

Brilliant! And when can we expect another headline tour from the band in the UK?

Well actually the one big and simple thing which stop us coming to the UK is the timing. The UK is where we really want to tour around, so we want to make it happen as soon as possible but at this moment, the only thing I can say is that I will come over as soon as I can!
