Earlier this year Charlie Simpson announced that he would be going solo after band "Fightstar" took a break from recording in 2010.
Charlie has just released his single "Down Down Down" which is available to download from itunes.
He is to release his new debut album later this summer. The new album is called " Young Pilgrim" which will be released 15 August.
His new album is a 12 track record which according to Charlie is a tribute to his youth, " As a child my parents got me interested in bands such as "The Beach Boys" and " The Eagles", I have always been a huge fan of big harmonies. The music my parents have got me into as a child has stuck with me throughout the years."
All the songs in his album are a part of him,"its a very personal record" but as Charlie said there is always a favourite and this is the track "Thorns".
"Thorns was the first track that he wrote for the record. After finishing this song it was the first time I thought this was it, this is the start of my solo career."
Over the last 10-15 years the music he has been writing and playing have been acoustic songs and when he finished writing Thorns he knew that this would be the song for him that would represent his solo career and his new album.
As his past experience is performing as a band, this whole performing as a Solo artist is a new experience as Charlie said, " but I do have a six piece band so it would feel very strange if it was just me and my guitar."
Charlie has recently played his first gig "it was really exciting and I haven't felt that nervous in a long time, it was interesting to see what the reaction would be from the audience and thankfully it was really good."
Having experience in bands does make it less daunting " I'm used to how things things work, I think coming into the music industry as a solo artist would be more daunting. Its nice to have that experience behind me when your out on the road."
As we know Charlie was a former member of the band Fightstar but they do have plans to re-join in the future but no set dates have been arranged "it will happen when we feel the time is right."
Charlie's main aim at the minute is focussing his attention on his solo career and getting his album out to as many people as possible.
He plans to do a short tour around the U.K this summer with just seven dates but on the release of his new album in August he hopes to do a much bigger tour around Europe, Japan, Australia and America.
Charlie is planning to attend a few festivals this summer such as the Cornwell Festival and the Wittstock festival and you never know where else he might just pop up throughout the summer, so keep an eye out for this new talented solo artist.
