Adam Ficek

Adam Ficek has been a busy boy of late, juggling life in Babyshambles, Roses Kings Castles and of course, Pete Doherty. So with the release of new material ready and waiting in the wings, I caught up with him to find out the inside information.

Hello there pretty, how are things going in your lovely world?

Things are going well, just so busy juggling babyshambles, Roses and Peter's solo shows. Alongside this I'm trying to sort out the release of my forthcoming 'roses kings cassettes' demo and finish some remixes. It's all fun though.

To anyone who hasn’t heard of you yet, how would you describe your sound?

It's 'odd pop' with big melodies, intertwined with a hint of lyrical cynicism.

Tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your foxy new record…

It was inspired by lots of things. The people I meet, the places I go, I think it has a quixotic - suburban feel, probably due to my growing up in Milton Keynes and Essex. although that's all subjective I suppose.

If you were going to give us just one song of yours to listen to so that you would become our new favourite singer, what would it be?

Brass winter, a vocal as warming as Ready Brek and you can't fault an oboe.

If you could cover another musician’s song, what would it be?

Caveman rock by Tommy Steele. Don't ask...

And can you sum up your good self in just five words?

Sincere, Loyal, moral, pragmatic, disciplined - probably the 5 most uncommon traits in the music business, but I'm sticking to my guns.

What makes you stand out from the crowd?

I think it's probably my honesty, this whole project is a window into my 'growing up in public' when I started this project I hadn't had much live experience so it was a real initiation of fire and I openly invited my fans to become a part of that experience. The demos and album recordings encapsulate this, it's all very sincere lyrically and musically.

You know we’re having a bit of an economic crisis here at the moment, if people wanted to spend their last £10 on a cd this weekend, why should they buy yours?

It's all self funded and gets put back into making more music so I like to think of it as a musical co-operative.

It'll make you a happier person when you find yourself whistling those purest or roses melodies.

What three bands would you have to headline your dream festival?

The Stone Roses, The Smiths, The Housemartins.

What has been your favourite musical memory to date?

Listening to the flute and recorder battling it out on my new recording yesterday. Woodwind wars. Or perhaps playing Wembley arena with babyshambles. It's most musicians childhood fantasy I expect.

Who do you think is the greatest artist around at the moment?

I think Morrissey has lasted and remained true to his integrity.

There's also loads of great new bands coming up again, we seem to be in a new era of alternative music now, the swagger of indie boy bands is dwindling, it's all about the girls. So.......at the moment probably, girls aloud!

If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions; What was the last book you read?

The Art Of War by Sun Tzu

If you had only 9 minutes to live, what would you do in those 9 minutes?

Probably a few goodbyes here and there, followed by the biggest overindulgence of my every vice imaginable..

If you could take over a foreign country tomorrow, which would you take over and what would be your first law?

I could get political here....nah....er. I wouldn't like to take over a foreign country or this country for that matter, I don't have the time..

Cheers, good luck with everything & thanks for making my day slightly more entertaining!
