A Loss For Words vocalist Matt Arsenault took time out of his touring schedule to answer our questions about their new record deal, touring Japan and much more. They will be performing at this year’s Slam Dunk Festival at Leeds and Hatfield on the Macbeth Stage.
- What’s going on the world of A Loss For Words at the moment?
We are in the UK with our good friends in Set Your Goals and This Time Next Year. We’re also stoked to play Slam Dunk festival, then we’re off to the studio to do a new record!
- How did the deal with Rise Records come about?
Our deal with Rise/Velocity Records came about by just meeting our good friend Dave Shapiro in LA and it was just straight love at first sight! We were super stoked!
- What benefits does working with this label give you?
Well we haven't started our record cycle yet... but... they got us in the studio with an awesome producer Andrew Wade. They are super cool; we met them at Bamboozle this year. We’re really looking forward to working with them!
- Have you started work on your next album?
Yes, we have 20 new songs ready to go for the studio when we finish this tour. Then we have to pick the best 14. I literally cannot wait to release a new record!
- What was the reasoning behind releasing Motown Classics?
Honestly we love R&B and wanted to do something fun and different. So we talked to Vinnie from Less Than Jake and we worked it all out. It was such a fun project.
- How was fan-reaction to that?
Honestly we got all positive feedback so we were all happy. I mean it was just a fun release! Kids always ask us to play the songs because it’s just fun sing-a-long for all ages.
- Last year, you finished up with a tour with The Wonder Years. How was that?
We love those dudes! That tour was amazing. It's awesome being on the road with good friends and just getting silly and partying and eating lots of good food. Yum!
- Have you been touring since?
Yeah we tour a lot! But we had two months off recently to write this new record. I wish I had some work when we we’re off cause I’m broke asssssssssss shiaaaaat!
- Your MySpace page mentions a real passion and dedication to music. Are you proud of the scene you’re in?
Yeah, this scene and community has been a huge part of my life for the last 13 years. It’s something really special. We are so thankful for all the friends we have made all over the world from touring and we’re looking forward to future endeavours.
- How would you define your music?
I'd say it’s like an Oreo cookie blizzard from Dairy Queen after a good Italian dinner with your family. And your little sister’s ice cream melted all over. You know what I mean!
- You’ve toured with Four Year Strong and Polar Bear Club, amongst others. What has been your best touring experience?
Our best tour experience honestly is getting to see other countries and see different cultures. It’s pretty crazy to see how different every country is from one another. The language, food, reaction from kids, and the party supplies.
- What was it like getting to go to Japan?
Japan is my favourite for sure! I love the Japanese culture. They are some of the nicest people we have ever encountered. The sushi is flawless as well!
- Are there any big plans in the pipeline for the rest of the year?
We are going to do the Artery Tour in the States and tour with Cruel Hand in the autumn. Biggest thing is to just get this record done.
- Who would you like to get the chance to go on tour with?
New Found Glory, Alkaline Trio, and Saves the Day are the bands I've wanted to tour with since day one when we started.
- If someone were reading this, tempted to check you guys out, how would you convince him or her to have a listen?
Grab a pint of beer! Get your best friends and have fun and listen to us! It’s what it’s all about!
