What do you do if you’ve only got three and a half minutes to live? We watch a character go through shock, panic, frustration, anger and eventually acceptance (what else can he do?). By putting it in the same time frame as it takes for the actual song to play out, the audience will empathise much more with the character’s predicament because they will share his anxiety.Former front man of The Cult, Ian Astbury, lends his world weary drawl to the song to spectacular effect. It opens with a short burst of acoustic guitar before building upon the pulsating, insistent beat for which Unkle (James Lavelle and Richard File) are known, ebbing and flowing between foreboding and abrasiveness, a sense of urgency and paranoia present throughout. Astbury’s voice has never sounded so good.‘Burn My Shadow’ will be the first release on James Lavelle’s new label, Surrender All, part of the Surrender All stable which will connect his famously broad range of interests – music, fashion and art – through one independently run axis: Surrender All is the record label, which will be a home for exciting new talent, whatever its musical persuasion, with the aim to push boundaries in the same that Mo Wax did. James has also set up the Surrender clothing line, the Surrender Sound studio.

Unkle will play their first ever live show which will take place next week, 5th July 2007.
