The Wombats have announced that they will be releasing their brand new single âMy Circuitboard Cityâ on 16 March, 2008.
The single, which sees the bandâs sound develop and progress in a more post-punk, scuzzier direction, was produced by Tore Johanson (The Cardigans; Franz Ferdinand) at London Metropolis Studio.
The song demonstrates a darker side to the band and is the first new material to be released since their highly acclaimed debut album A Guide To Love, Loss and Desperation. As ever with The Wombats, the bleaker lyrical content is belied with hi-octane, effervescent music that has become so distinctive to their sound and imperative to their success in the past year.
2008 was a year of immense success for The Wombats. The band completed two huge sold-out UK tours in May and November, which included triumphant shows at Brixton Academy, a unique one-off headline show at Londonâs Royal Albert Hall, and a massive homecoming show at the new 10,000 capacity Liverpool Echo Arena in November.
They were nominated for Best UK Act at the MTV Europe Awards in November, and the band played plethora of enormous festival appearances last summer, seeing them perform a co-headline set on the NME/Radio 1 stage at Reading and Leeds; an exultant performance on the Other Stage at Glastonbury; as well as storming sets at T In The Park, Isle of Wight and Oxegen.
The Wombats have also recently confirmed they will be playing three NME Awards Show live dates in February 2009, which will be the bandâs first live dates of the new year.
