Released 26th Feb on Fiction‘I noticed you, you stood out like a sore thumb, the most beautiful sore thumb I have ever seen’There are few bands that can capture the perils of young love like Brighton based The Maccabees – five young friends who have spent 2006 honing their craft, releasing a clutch of must-have singles (see ‘Latchmere’, ‘X-Ray’ and ‘First Love’), and developing a live performance as arrestingly assured and compelling as any young band around today.Following on from the recent top 40 success of ‘First Love’ comes the brilliant ‘About Your Dress’, the sign of a band that has moved on a long way from their self-confessed humble beginnings (‘we were like a folk band’) to one excitedly espousing the great British tradition of groups like Blur and The Kinks in sound, sentiment and ambition. ‘Its just what all young lovers do’ sings Orlando, recalling burning his new girl’s dress with his cigarette on their first date, and delivering a perfect everyman tale of awkward young love.
