Team Waterpolo, who recently returned from finalising tracks for their debut album in the west of France with Dave McCracken (Ian Brown, Depeche Mode and Beyonce) at Nantes’ Black Box Studios, release a first single from that forthcoming album on May 18th.
Threaded with an infectious melody line, ‘Room 44’ is a worthy successor to NME Single Of The Week, ‘Letting Go’ (‘a glammed up, glitter-clapping, pant-swaying party anthem’ NME) and follow up ‘So Called Summer’ (‘a well orchestrated pop hit’ THE FLY) and sees the band eulogise their oft talked about (but strangely yet to be realised) space hotel, complete with alluring aliens.
Team Waterpolo were catapulted to the front page of MySpace mere days after posting their first tune just under two years ago. Over 130 shows in 2008 including tours with the likes of The Wombats, Black Kids and Crystal Castles alongside a host of summer 2008 festival appearances saw the four lads from Preston crystallise their electronic pop sound that draws inspiration from sources as diverse as Beastie Boys and Daft Punk.
‘Room 44’ will be available on CD, 7” and as a digital bundle featuring remixes of the single by Run, Hide, Survive, last seen twisting Kaiser Chiefs into incredible new shapes, and Louis La Roche.
