After releasing debut single âGood Thing It's a Ghost Town Around Hereâ, San Franciscoâs 15 piece Still Flyinâ are set to release new single âForever Dudesâ on the 23rd February through Moshi Moshi.
Whilst 2008 has seen bands from North Americaâs East Coast plundering the sounds of Graceland-appropriated afrobeat, Still Flyinâs sound comes from somewhere entirely different. Theirs is a sound that mixes the melodies and DIY aesthetic of West Coast indie-pop with the loose grooves of 1960s rocksteady, and has converted even the most cynical of hipsters.
âForever Dudesâ is three minutes of Californian sun-kissed, good-times music, set to blow away any lingering winter blues. Soundtracked by rousing brass, hammond organ and layered west coast harmonies, Still Flyinâ have no detailed master plan other than making life-affirming music to party to.
The bandâs joyfully chaotic and infectious live shows are more like huge parties: 15 people in the band playing trombones, saxophones, singing, clapping and dancing like their lives depend on it. Having been joined on stage in the past by the likes of Jens Lekman and various members of Architecture In Helsinki, a gig with Still Flyinâ is very special indeed.
The band is currently putting the finishing touches to their debut record, âNever Gonna Touch The Groundâ. Recorded in San Francisco and mixed by members of Architecture In Helsinki, the record is due to be released in April 2009 through Moshi Moshi Records and promises to be full of HammJamm spirit.
