Sigur Rós round off their phenomenal year with the release of a new single, a special edition of their recent Top 5 album including two stunning new films and a 196 page hardbound book, plus a hugely anticipated UK tour featuring their biggest solo headline shows to date in the UK.
The single âVið spilum endalaustâ is one of their most recent albumâs highlights and a moment of sheer joyful exuberance at their live shows â witnessed in its full glory at their triumphant headline performance at this yearâs Latitude Festival, which was widely hailed as one of the most astounding sets of the summer and has been nominated as Headline Act of the Year in the UK Festival Awards.
On the day of its release Sigur Rós will proudly unveil two beautiful films directed by Nick Abrahams that document much of the recording of their album and early touring. The first film is a stunning, moving, hypnotic and transcendent piece of cinema. Set to the bandâs music and traversing Iceland, London, America and Mexico â through ice and heat, hurricanes and drama â it captures the essence of Sigur Rós as people, as a band and as a unique musical force in both grandeur and humour; a genuine work of art in all ways.
The second film is a documentary about the recording of the most ambitious piece of music Sigur Rós have ever undertaken. âÃra báturâ was recorded live at Abbey Road by the band with a 69-piece orchestra and a 20-piece boys choir, conducted by Icelandic maestro Daniel Bjarnasson. The film is a thoughtful and engaging insight into the recording of a career highlight for the band and will bring a lump to the throat of even the most hardened cynic.
On November 17th a special deluxe edition of the album âMeð suð à eyrum við spilum endalaustâ will also be released. This special edition was previously available solely on www.sigurros.com. It contains the album, a DVD including both films mentioned above plus the banned video to the track âGobbledigookâ (nominated for Video of the Year), a 196-page hardcover cloth-bound book of photographs shot by Eva Vermandel and each special edition will not only be individually numbered but include a unique strip of 16mm film from the âGobbledigookâ video shoot, specially mounted within the front cover of the book..
