The first song you write is often your worst. If that's not on the tip of every seasoned musician's tongue by now, it may never be.
But this isn't about them, is it? This is about us, that is, those of us who believe that music can help you rise out of a pile of cow-dung like a flower. And that's what we strive to bring into this world, if not the blossom itself, then at least the seeds of something worth living and dying for...
Hearing is believing, my friends! A good song leaves you better off than you were before. So have a listen... We're the Sam Roberts Band from Montreal. Thanks for your time. (- Sam Roberts)
In recent years, the SRB has performed on Dave Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Craig Ferguson and Carson Daly. We were hoping for Oprah, but that door is now closed.
A few well-placed bribes also saw the band play on stages at festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Sasquatch, Live 8 and SARS-stock.
At this year's Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, the band performed for their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (also known as Will and Kate). They seemed to like it...
A brief but memorable handshake and "hello" must also be noted. For the record, I said "Welcome to Canada, enjoy your stay."
This is SRB's fifth release. It was conceived in the heat and passion of a Montreal summer - the kind that only comes after six months of bone-and-mind-numbing winter. Producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Gomez, Iron and Wine) boarded the train vowing to steer the record either to the Promised Land or to Hell!
The band relocated to his native Chicago and, after six weeks of labour, Collider was finally born. Now it has found it's way to you. (- Sam Roberts)
