Following the release of the highly acclaimed ‘My Manic and I’ EP, on 28th January Virgin Records will release Laura Marling’s first single, ‘Ghosts’ from her forthcoming album. ‘Ghosts’ continues the creative maturity in song writing that Laura is establishing in her music. The song is an enchanting tale of young lovers haunted by the memory of lost love (“these are the ghosts, the ghosts that broke my heart before I met you..”), the grief suffered (“…he says, I’m so lost, not well at all”) and the refuge found in friendship (“we were just lovers crying on each other’s shoulder”). The song starts simply and builds with the beautiful addition of xylophone, fiddle and percussion as the tale unfolds and reaches its crescendo. Laura’s debut album, ‘Alas I Cannot Swim’, will be released on 4th February ’08 and will initially be available in a limited edition ‘Song Box’. The ‘Song Box’ has been inspired and created by Laura using her ideas and the imagery of her lyrics. It will contain: an invitation to redeem a concert ticket to one of five UK concerts; a CD copy of the album and mementos relating to each song on the album. The Song Box can be pre-ordered through www.lauramarling.com.Song Box Tour

Laura will play her first US dates in January, in New York and Brooklyn. Alt-folk singer-songwriter from a small village called Eversley just outside of Reading, the story goes that Laura Marling came to London with nothing but her guitar and a handful of songs. Still just a teenager, her talents were soon noticed at early Way Out West and Blue Flowers gigs. She has recently complete her first national UK tour as well as some support dates with Devendra Banhart in the UK and Europe. Laura Marling
