Jacob Golden, who single-handedly seems to occupy a space somehow left vacant between Beck and Daniel Johnston, will be releasing the sensational Out Come The Wolves on The Echo Label on March 3rd 2008. Out Come The Wolves is quite simply breathtaking, inhabiting some kind of lost future landscape peopled by the ghosts of Zager and Evans (In The Year 2525) and The Mamas and Papas. Indeed, the LA-based singer/songwriter Golden’s microcosmic/ macrocosmic take on the American Bubble are all but impenetrable: “Out come the wolves/the hunting of our great American idols/but the ants will march until their Queen/has come god damn downtown James Brown - what’s taken you so long/your kids are starving” although another line “the weeping wall of music sings but radio has lost that loving feeling” implies an innocent daydream has become a kind of nightmare. Oh, and in case we forgot to mention it, Out Come The Wolves is a glorious if somewhat haunting pop song.Out Come The Wolves has been taken from Golden’s sensational second album Revenge Songs released in October on Echo. Golden reveals that the driving force of his music is his attempt to rise above his circumstances. "I know Revenge sounds like a negative concept,” he says, “but for me it represents the idea of accepting your inner struggle, standing tall in the face of doubt and failure.” Golden wrote most of the songs on the album after he moved to Portland to do a regular job. Following spells hustling his wares in LA and London, he had turned his back on the compulsion to make music that’s been with him since he started singing at the age of 10. "I was getting hung up on the career thing. The distance and perspective of Portland was an inspiration, and it made me realise that a musician is what I naturally am." He seldom bothers with recording studios, preferring, when he's away from home, the natural acoustics of underground car parks and a particular subterranean concrete art gallery. "I love the idea of making modern field recordings." Jacob recently recorded his first UK TV appearance - for MTV2 as part of their 'Spanking New' series of sessions, to be broadcast in January, and Out Come The Wolves continues to receive support from Zane Lowe on Radio 1 and Johnny Walker on Radio 2.Jacob kicks off his tour with a headline show in Birmingham on 20 January at Birmingham Mac Arts.Jacob co-headlines with Merz on tour: 25 January London Roundhouse Studio; 27 January Edinburgh Cabaret Voltaire; 28 January Manchester Night and Day; 29th January Leeds Brudenell Social Club; 30th January Nottingham Bodega; 1 February Northampton Soundhaus; 3 Feb Portsmouth The Cellars; 4th February Exeter Phoenix; 5 February Bristol Louisiana, and has also just announced a one off gig at the Enterprise in Camden on Thursday 7th February.Jacob Golden releases Out Come The Wolves/Zero Integrity on Echo on March 3rd 2008, available on 7 Inch and for digital download.
