Birmingham-born singer songwriter Bryn Christopher is bringing old-school soul bang into the 21st century with his first release âThe Questâ out June 9th through Polydor Records.
Bryn was born to sing. Heâs a naturally charismatic performer with a voice like a runaway freight train. His talent got him the sought-after support slot on Amy Winehouseâs tour at the end of last year while he was still totally unknown. More recently the intriguing, elegant 22-year-old has been snapped up by one of the biggest live agents in the US â William Morris. Cue rumours of insurance figures for those vocal chords.
Brynâs first single âThe Questâ perfectly showcases his incredibly powerful and effusive voice over a haunting Hammond organ melody, the lyrics for which he wrote on his mobile phone. The theme of the song is powerful stuff too, drawing on his brotherâs personal experience as a soldier stationed in Basra.
Bryn teamed up with co-writer/producer Jarrad Rogers and production supremos Midi Mafia (Jennifer Lopez, Talib Kweli, Nelly) to make his debut album âMy Worldâ which will be released in late August. Midi Mafia recently secured the exclusive rights to use samples from the infamous Stax Records Catalogue and have used some of these for the first time ever on Brynâs album, making it a rare gem indeed.
Bryn hosted a residency at North Londonâs live spot The Boogaloo throughout April and has another residency pencilled in at the Soho Revue Bar for July. Heâs also due to play at this summerâs Wireless festival in Hyde Park on the same day as Jay Z, as well as being confirmed for T in The Park, Oxygen and The V Festival.
