New Jersey’s, The Front Bottoms are based around an acoustic guitar, drums and two vocals. Vocalist and guitarist Brian Sella and drummer-bullhornist Mathew Uychich have known each other since they were 10 and 8 years old respectively and have been, in one way or another, a band for years.
The duo sing intelligent lyrics about love, life, growing up and self doubt, over the greatest of songs. There are touches of Say Anything, The Replacements, Harvey Danger, The Hold Steady and The Get Up Kids, and they've recently toured in America with Dashboard Confessional and Kevin Devine. They straddle the line between indie and punk perfectly.
'We like to keep it familiar so that it’s not too intimidating,' says singer-guitarist Brian Sella, 'but we always make sure it’s not immediately recognizable.'
It’s true, you just can’t quite put your finger on them but we invite you to try to peg these guys with the release of their self-titled debut The Front Bottoms out 11th June 2012 on Banquet Records.
The band will be touring in early May, with shows at New Slang with Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, and London shows with Great Cynics and Tellison amongst others,. There's also a date at Brighton's Great Escape Festival, and a Banquet in-store to look forward to. Tour dates are as follows:
