The Charlatans drummer Jon Brookes is aiming to recover from his brain tumour treatment within the next six weeks - because he wants to join the band on tour in Australia.
Brookes was diagnosed with brain cancer earlier this month after he collapsed at a concert in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group cancelled a string of shows in the U.S. and former The Verve drummer Pete Salisbury has been drafted in to replace Brookes as he recuperates.
But frontman Tim Burgess has revealed his bandmate is making a speedy recovery after having been released from intensive care following surgery last week, and Brookes is now hoping to be well enough to rejoin the band in time for their trek Down Under.
Burgess says, "He wants to go to Australia, which is in six weeks' time. I think that's the most realistic way to look at everything."
