The recent Facebook group that successfully campaigned to keep X-Factor's Joe McElderry from the top spot at Christmas has inspired a trend - another ground roots movement is using the Internet in a bid to get The Smiths' How Soon Is Now to the top of the charts.
In December, the group launched a Facebook initiative, which helped Rage Against the Machine claim an unlikely number one with Killing in the Name - a song campaign bosses chose as an alternative to The X Factor winner Joe McElderry's tune.
Killing In The Name became Britain's first non-X Factor festive favourite in five years.
Now, another group on the social network has launched a bid to land The Smiths on the top of the charts at the beginning of February - the 25th anniversary of the band's Meat is Murder album.
The Smiths How Soon Is Now? for No1 Meat Is Murder 25th Anniversary group hope to persuade music fans to buy or download the track, so it's the first number one in Britain in February.
