Mobo-Award nominated artist Ironik releases his brand new single, ‘Tiny Dancer’ on April 27th, through Asylum Records. It is the third single to be lifted from the UK Top 20 debut NO POINT IN WASTING TEARS and sees the 21-year old’s intrinsic melodic flows accompanied by up-and-coming emcee - Chipmunk and the legendary Sir Elton John. The result is one of this year’s most hotly anticipated releases to date.
‘Tiny Dancer’, comes with total backing from Sir Elton for the rearrangement of the cult-classic original and full access to the 12” masters. “Tupac and Kanye West are the two artists I’ve let sample my records - that says everything about how much I rate Ironik” – says Sir Elton. “It’s good to be able to help young talent I believe in”. To have one of the Legend’s iconic tracks cleared and personally approved is an almost unprecedented honour and the 21 year old north Londoner finds himself in prestigious company indeed as he puts a distinct 09’ spin on the 1971 recording.
Last year, ‘Stay With Me’, stormed the UK top 5 and went on to reside inside the Top 20 for nine weeks trailblazing a path for his peers to follow him into the mainstream. His album, NO POINT IN WASTING TEARS revealed the not-so-secret diary of a young man growing up in uncertain times with culturally relevant lyrical themes striking a chord with a generation, whilst its musical depth and sing-along choruses appealed across the board. It became a definitive moment in Black British music and has become the benchmark for what is now known as Post Grime Pop (PGP) - the brighter, bubblier sound of the street. Seamlessly straddling the line between r&b, grime, pop and Hip-Hop, Ironik’s album not only showcases him but also draws from a pool of talent in the current urban music scene. It brings to the fore some central figures – like the ultra-hot grime MC Chipmunk; producer Bless Beats; rapper Tinchy Stryder; godfather of Grime Wiley; and hugely gifted singers like Young Nate, Ny and Digga.
For the last five years Ironik has toured constantly across the UK and built up a dedicated fan base who follow his every move through social networking. Night after night he pushed his music out there, found fans and kept them close by logging on and chatting with them post gig. As a pioneering member of the ‘MySpace generation’, Ironik knew what his fans demanded from him and always worked hard to deliver to them. This led to a gruelling schedule of no less than 250 gigs in the past year playing to adoring fans all over the country as proven by his staggering 100k+ MySpace friends and some 20 million cumulative hits on Myspace, Bebo and YouTube channels. The internet has been around his entire life, he knows its topography and he understands its flow – all of which we have witnessed with this groundbreaking new act.
