In today's daily rap we see Jermaine Dupri's party called to a halt after a shooting and Jay-Z and NAS teaming up on stage. Elsewhere, Slim Thug has left Interscope records to take up home at Koch and despite deathy rumours Paul Wall is very much still alive and kicking.
Atlanta Party halted
A party thrown by Atlanta mogul Jermaine Dupri was cut short in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The event which was attended by a varied list of A list celebrities including Sean Combs, Nelly, Usher and actress Gabrielle Union was held at Club Dream when an altercation broke out between security and a group of people who were trying to access the VIP area.
The group allegedly became unruly after being told they had to pay a second entry fee to enter the exclusive area, having already paid to enter the club.
It is still not clear if there was actually shots fired as certain media outlets are saying that the pop which had caused party goers to run for cover was in actuality a speaker malfunction and not gun shots as earlier reported. The club was closed down for a couple of hours but later re-opened.
Jay Z joins Nas on stage
As the Rock the Bells Tour hit New York Jones Beach yesterday, concert attendees were in for a few surprises.
In true NY fashion, icons hit the stage of the Amphitheatre at the Long Island beach pleasing the crowd. Acts such as EPMD, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Slick Rick, DJ Premier and A Tribe Called Quest, were all out in force but the most talked about appearance of the night was when Nas was joined by fellow rapper Jay Z to perform Black Republicans from Nasâs 2006 album Hip-Hop is Dead.
Rock the Bells is heading out west to throw concerts in California, Washington and Colorado having already thrown successful events in NY, Chicago and Maryland.
Slim Thug leaves Interscope
Texas rapper Slim Thug is getting ready to make himself very comfortable at his new label home Koch.
The rapper who had been signed to Interscope opted to move over to independent giant Koch to concentrate on his own endeavors with his group The Boss Hogg Outlawz.
The sophomore album from the collective will see shelf life on September 2nd and is called Back by Blockular Demand (Serve and Collect 2), their debut released just over a year ago was entitled Serve and Collect.
Slim Thug took his place in the spotlight after appearing on fellow Texas rapper Mike Jones track Still Tippin and releasing his debut Still Platinum in 2005.
Paul Wall still alive
Reports circulated on Friday that Texas rapper and jeweler Paul Wall had been shot and killed in a night club incident.
These rumors were in fact denied by reps for the rapper who said he was alive and well. It had been indicated that an actual associate of the rapper had in actuality been the fatality in a night club shooting, however this has yet to be confirmed by any party or authority.
Paul Wall recently joined forces with Travis Barker of Blink 182 and Skinhead Rob to record as trio Expensive Taste
