In today’s Daily Rap, Nas and Kelis announce their plans to divorce, DMX has to cough up, Ashanti is to play Dorothy and Lil Wayne Beats out Obama.
Nas and Kelis to divorce
Hip-Hop/R&B couple Nas and Kelis are headed for divorce after it was revealed that Kelis had filed papers in a Manhattan court yesterday.
The couple who are expecting their first child in July have been married for four years after meeting in 2002.
The reasons for the proceedings are cited as being verbal abuse and infidelity.
DMX has to cough up
Troubled rapper DMX is not even out of prison and already more problems are on the horizon for the rapper.
DMX, born Earl Simmons, was ordered to pay $240,000 to a man he assaulted at JFK airport in New York five years ago. The rapper pulled over Sergei Priporin and his family while impersonating a police officer, using a fake siren.
DMX, when answering to these charges in court, had said the man had made him late for his flight. The original lawsuit sought over $4 million in damages.
Ashanti to play Dorothy
R&B singer Dorothy is expected to take to the stage this coming June as she appears in The Wiz on Broadway.
This will be the stage debut for the Long Island singer. The Wiz, an adaptation of The L. Frank Baum’s classic The Wizard of Oz, was originally made as a movie in 1978 which featured Diana Ross in the role of Dorothy supported by funny man Richard Pryor as the tin man and Michael Jackson as the scarecrow.
The Wiz is set to open at the New York City Center and run for the entire month of June
Lil Wayne Beats out Obama
Lil Wayne came in at Number 12 on Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People List. The New Orleans rapper beat out the likes of Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, Kanye West, Oprah Winfrey and more to take the spot.
The list which came under serious scrutiny last week after hackers allegedly tampered with voting can be seen in its entirety here. Other entertainers included in the list were rapper/activist M.I.A and T Pain.
