In today's Daily Rap producer Ninth Wonder names a January album release, Pharrell Williams opens close store, Iran band Hip-Hop, Mannie Fresh sister shot dead. The Wonder YearsProducer Ninth Wonder who doubles up as a college professor when not making tracks for the likes of Jay Z or Mary J Blige is preparing for a January 29th release for his album The Wonder Years on Asylum records. The album will feature the likes of Erykah Badu. Q Tip and Mos Def.Ninth hopes that this follow up to The Dream Merchant will attract a more mature listener. "You're going to get some younger people who will enjoy this, but my main demographic is women who have careers, women who like to sit in the house and relax as they listen to it.My album is not for the club. A lot of women my age don't go out, because they don't like the music being played. I want my album to be played in the beauty salon or a Coach bag store just as much as anywhere," he explained.Pharrell opens store
One half of production duo the Neptunes, Pharrell Williams has opened his first clothing store in NYC with his Japanese partner Nigo. The flagship Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream store is located in the trendy district of Soho in Manhattan which plays host to a wide variety of up scale clothing companies. The super producer hinted that he will be whisking his brightly colored clothing and extensive array of sneakers across the Pacific to Japan next.
Iran bans Hip-Hop
Due to the 'excessive usage' of cursing in the lyrics of rap music, officials from the Middle Eastern country of Iran have decided to ban the music from the country.
"There is nothing wrong with this type of music in itself but due to the use of obscene words by its singers this music has been categorized as illegal," said Mohammad Dashtgoli, head of the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry in the country. Rap music is said to have become readily accessible on Iran's black market.
Producers sister shot dead
The 41 year old sister of Mannie Fresh, formerly of Cash Money records has apparently been murdered in her home in New Orleans. Angela Bryant was found with a shot to the head in her home by family members who identified the body. Mannie Fresh was crucial in the rise of Cash Money Records due to his style of production. He parted ways with the company in 2005 due to financial differences and is now signed to Def Jam South. The victim was only recently married said her Mother. Police have yet to recover Ms. Bryant's car.
